We recently completed a solar installation for Dingwall Mart, with a 25kW roof mounted solar array. This augments their existing 50kW Wind Turbine and a small ground mounted solar array that was installed early in the FITs (Feed In Tariffs) era as a demonstrator.
Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems
Hybrid systems are much talked about these days, and for good reason.
As the emphasis changes for smaller scale renewables from the FIT era to a time when energy security and self consumption are equally if not more important, then considering how & when you generate your electricity is just as important as the total power you could generate.
In Scotland we have quite strong seasonal variations and that shows through in the generation from our renewables (also a hot topic on a national scale!).
By installing a hybrid system you make use of the winter generation, through wind or hydro for example, and the better weather in the summer, via solar power.
For an all year business like the Mart, covering their electricity consumption with both wind and solar makes sense.

Lasting Relationship in Energy Management
Our work with them has been ongoing for several years now, we look after their back up generator, carried out maintenance work on the grid connection for their wind turbine, and have replaced the EV charger in their carpark.
Now having successfully negotiated the grid connection with the DNO (Distribution Network Operator) for their additional solar, we completed the installation late 2024.
Ground Mounted Solar Expansion
Our next steps are to refurbish the ground mounted solar, which we expect to increase output by about 50% and to see how we can help them augment their existing biomass heating with spare generation from the renewables. We are thankful for their continued business.
