Lite Bite - Electrical Gates Installation

terrystebbings

We've just embarked on the second renewably powered electric gate project!

A renewably powered electric gate with solar panels

The first electric gate was installed in 2016 and had a small 250W hydro running off water from a road drain. It had a very basic screen and 40m penstock with 13m head, but produced enough power to keep a small battery pack charged to manage the gates. Before long the Client had added LED approach lighting.

The knowing individual can see these lights as they head north along the A82, and the Client is much happier now that paying guests can come and go with ease. Non-paying guests have stopped pitching up with their picnic blankets on his front garden and he and his wife can enjoy peaceful retirement after 30 years of business in Fort William.

This most recent project has similar elements to it, and although the Client is far from retirement they do have interested passersby and a remote driveway entrance. This time we will use 2 leftover solar panels from their larger offgrid system, and, working with a local builder and ironmonger, we will install a small offgrid system, powered gates and telecoms system.
