Some fun facts about renewable energy installations in Scotland.
Oldest Hydro Turbine Installation
We think the oldest hydro turbine we have worked on was from the 1900s (Pre1910). In fact it had no nameplate so we don’t actually know how old it was, but it generated DC. It was in Aberdeenshire and was a weird kind of transverse crossflow.
Oldest Wind Turbine Installation
The oldest wind turbine we have worked on……. was actually on a hydro turbine. An offgrid site in Lochaber where the previous site owner took the alternator from a fallen wind turbine (a very early Proven) and attached it and the controller to a 1950s 2.5kW Gilkes turbine.
Oldest Solar Panel Installation
And the first solar panel installation we carried out – probably one we fitted…in late 2014 to an offgrid hydro controller to keep it alive in dry summers (our first hybrid system).
