This is a 3 bedroom letting cottage on a remote estate north of Ullapool. Originally this cottage was powered solely by a diesel generator that guests had to run when they were onsite. Following an upgrade of an offgrid system at another property on the Estate, the Client wished to modernise the system with renewable energy and battery storage.
Given that the cottage is predominantly used in the summer months, an 8kW solar powered system was chosen. The existing generator was integrated with the offgrid system meaning Clients no longer had to be responsible for their power supply. The whole system was automated, using solar power to feed the cottage with excess stored in the battery.
When required, the generator would automatically be called upon to support peak loads or provide power if the battery became depleted. In the first months of operation, generator-run hours were down by almost 75%, reducing diesel costs and the servicing interval for the Client.
Proterra Energy continues to provide servicing support to the Client now on an annual basis only.
