The Client in Tomich built a new retreat up by a lochan on their estate outside Tomich. The aim was to provide a quiet and tranquil space for customers to stay, away from the busier tourism spots of the Glen Affric and surrounding villages.
The Client in Tomich built a new retreat up by a lochan on their estate outside Tomich. The aim was to provide a quiet and tranquil space for customers to stay, away from the busier tourism spots of the Glen Affric and surrounding villages.
With no power at the location we installed a small offgrid system comprising solar and a 500W micro wind turbine. Being on the top of a hill, the site was well suited to the wind turbine and the south facing single pitch roof was available for the installation of 2kW of solar panels.
The building is built with the environment in mind with composting toilet and some simple lighting and a small fridge. The system has been operational since 2012, providing a quiet space for those who wish to take time out of busier lives, to read or to write. Or perhaps just wanting to get away from the rest of us!
