Solar Panel Array and Battery Storage Case Study: Crask Inn, Sutherland

Introduction

Located in remote Sutherland, the Crask Inn is one of the most isolated Inns in Scotland.

Entirely off grid, Proterra Energy were contracted to upgrade the existing system and reduce the Inn’s reliance on diesel power making the activities of the Inn more sustainable.

The result was a 3kW solar array integrated alongside a 20 kWhr usable battery bank and a more efficient diesel generator.

The system is operated by an intelligent power management system and has significantly reduced the amount of fuel consumed by the generator and improved the sustainability of the Inn’s activities for years to come.
